You are cordially invited to tour Barking Cat Farm and join us for a mid-day family-style meal on the farm. There is no cost to attend. The tour and meal will be Monday, October 10, from 11AM until 2PM. The tour will start at 11 o’clock sharp.
In case of inclement weather, the event will be held the following Monday, October 17, at the same time.
The farm is located in the City of West Tawakoni in Hunt County. It is an easy drive approximately 1 hour east of downtown Dallas. The State Fair will be in progress, however, so you might want to take an alternative route to avoid that section of I30. Once you are east of the fair exits, it is a low-traffic easy drive that time of day. The farm has plenty of parking space, but you are also welcome to carpool. (Think HOV lane!)
After the tour, we will be grilling out hamburgers, chicken breasts, and portobello mushrooms for your sandwich of choice. This will be very simple, nothing fancy. Please try to bring either a side or a bottle of wine to share with the group, as well as BYOB. Kim and Laurie will provide plates, flatware, napkins, bowls, tables, and chairs. You are welcome to bring your own chair(s) or blankets for the full-on picnic experience if you like. If your side requires a specific serving utensil, please bring it.
There is no running water on the farm, but there will be plenty of clean water on hand for drinking and handwashing. There is limited access to electricity. So if you’re bringing something that needs to be heated, bring your own hot plate or crockpot and electricity will be provided. There is no refrigeration, either, so bring a cooler if you need refrigeration. This is a working farm, so think rustic and outdoorsy.
This is intended to be a very low-key, informal, Dame fun event. Kim and Laurie hope you will come out and see their little slice of Heaven on Earth; hear about its history; see where they “office”; visit the on-farm near-tame deer family; look at all the songbirds, frogs, turtles, dragonflies, and other wildlife; get your picture taken on a tractor; and just zen out with nature. Although it’s in the middle of a city limits, you will not know it, as the farm is surrounded by dense forest.
Please RSVP to Laurie at email@example.com by October 1 with THREE pieces of information — the number of people in your party, your cell phone number, and how many children under the age of 18 you’ll be bringing, if any. You are welcome to bring family and friends. Once you RSVP, Laurie will email you the farm address, directions, and other specifics. Also contact Laurie with any questions related to the farm or to the event.
Come on out, play hooky, eat, drink, laugh, and visit a working farm. It’s going to be a fun getaway from the real world and city life!
